Save Halkett Bay

Typical weekend at Halkett Bay Marine Park -- who says it's underused?
Halkett Bay Marine Park is not the right place for a ship dumped as an artificial reef. It's a special park in Howe Sound enjoyed by people who like to boat, swim, camp and kayak.

The United Church, which has operated a kids' camp there since 1923, fears that allowing a 366-foot vessel to be sunk in front of its property will damage this small bay.

Most importantly, so does Canada's Department of Fisheries and Oceans, which calls Halkett Bay "productive and sensitive fish habitat" that is "relatively uncommon within Howe Sound."

What You Should Do

Don't waste time: contact the DFO, which is currently conducting an Environmental Assessment of the artificial reef proposal.

A group dedicated to creating attractions for divers wants to dump an ex-navy warship in the mouth of Halkett Bay Marine Park. They claim that this protected marine park requires "enhancement." But they are wrong.
